Our story

The Gentian has always been a symbol of care and peace

A plant that cures poisons and purifies, that grows and resists the weather. A determined plant.

Our story

Our story isn't just made of walls and soil, but of journeys, seasons, and a family promise that crosses Sardinia. It all begins with the Transhumance, the ancient ritual of shepherds who, for centuries, braved the distances to protect the life and health of their flocks. A ritual that our family honoured with dedication until the 1970s.

The Gentian

The name of our farmhouse, The Gentian, is a tribute to our origins. Gentian is a rare and tenacious flower that grows wild in Sardinia only on the peaks of the Gennargentu. It is there, at the foot of the island's highest mountain, that you will find Fonni, the village we started from.

A stone's throw from the airport of Alghero and to the most beautiful beaches Coral Riviera, We planted a gentian in the form of a farm stay,
which conveys the silence of the wind, the wide open spaces of the countryside, the beauty of the Mediterranean scrubland.
All this just a stone's throw from the immense, blue, and enchanted sea of Sardinia, close to the warmth of Alghero and its people.

The Transhumance Journey

We are children of a proud land and an ancient trade. For generations, our family has lived to the rhythm of the seasons, moving from Barbagia to escape the rigours of winter in search of ever-green pastures. Our journey first led us to Siniscola and finally here, at Alghero. It wasn't just a logistical choice, but a return to loved ones: most of our maternal family had settled here a few years earlier, creating an invisible bridge between the granite of the interior and the sandstone of the Coral Riviera.

Our Farm: An Ecosystem of Life

Today La Genziana is a living entity that extends over 20 hectares, where the cycle of life follows the rhythms of time. We grow fodder, barley and oats, and other cereals to ensure the utmost well-being for our animals, the true beating heart of our business.
